LMR - Long Range Manipulator Arm
Description
The LMR was successfully used to inspect the structural integrity of supports in a critical area of a nuclear station. Access for the inspection was through a 10 inch (25 cm) opening.
This project was to provide a modular, long-reach, robotic arm in order to perform the inspection. The objective was to non-destructively inspect the supports by scanning their surface. If a surface scan was insufficient, then the alternative, drilling into the support to remove a sample would be carried out.
It should be noted that this project had a very tight schedule (of less than 12 weeks). ESI was able to provide the custom LMR robot within seven weeks. This quick delivery was due to ESI's inhouse expertise in modular robots.
